After go-live, daily work feels heavier, hypercare stretches into months, and business users begin to ask why the new solution seems more complicated than the old one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem isn\u2019t always the technology. The problem is that the project was scoped too narrowly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This becomes clear when looking at a framework I use to assess transformation readiness:<br>the\u00a0<strong>Operating Model Enablement Venn (OME Venn)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"740\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Venn-1024x740.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-447\" style=\"width:692px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Venn-1024x740.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Venn-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Venn-768x555.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Venn-1536x1110.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Venn.jpg 1716w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Is the Operating Model Enablement Venn (OME Venn)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The OME Venn highlights the four domains that must evolve together for any ERP-driven change to succeed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Strategy &amp; Operating Model<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Operative Processes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>People &amp; Capabilities<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tools (Technology)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>ERP success happens in the overlapping center \u2014 where all four domains align.<br>Failure happens when the project focuses mainly on&nbsp;<em>Tools + basic transactional training<\/em> and partial testing, while the rest of the model remains underdeveloped. This is the root cause of many ERP challenges: projects are executed as technology upgrades instead of operating model transformations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happens When Only Part of the OME Venn Is Addressed?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When the other domains are ignored and the focus stays mainly on technology, the same problems almost always appear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ERP, EWM or IBP feel&nbsp;<em>\u201ctoo complex\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;to use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>planning cannot meet the accuracy the system expects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>operative processes require extra manual work to function<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>users return to old workarounds in daily operations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hypercare lasts far longer than planned<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the expected business value never materializes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are not system defects. They are&nbsp;<strong>gaps in the Operating Model Enablement Venn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How ERP Projects Should Actually Be Delivered<\/strong>?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To make the four domains move in the same direction, ERP programs must shift from system deployment to operating model deploy and enablement. The following principles support this shift:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Treat ERP as a business transformation \u2014 not an IT implementation.<\/strong> Start with the operating model, roles, and decision-making logic. Let technology enable them, not define them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Use the OME Venn as the core design <\/strong> Strategy, processes, people, and tools must be developed in parallel, not in sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>Establish accountable business ownership<\/strong> If business does not own the solutions for operative processes, it cannot own the outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. <strong>Assess organizational maturity realistically during the project.<\/strong><br><\/strong>If data governance, capabilities or process discipline are not ready for full complexity, the solution must be simplified rather than forced through.
