{"id":479,"date":"2026-02-16T15:38:18","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T15:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/?p=479"},"modified":"2026-02-16T15:39:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T15:39:06","slug":"erp-programs-business-value-and-continuity-from-day-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/index.php\/2026\/02\/16\/erp-programs-business-value-and-continuity-from-day-one\/","title":{"rendered":"ERP Programs: Business Value and Continuity from Day One?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In almost every ERP program I\u2019ve seen, when go-live challenges emerge, the same&nbsp;<em>\u201clessons learned\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;resurface:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Master data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ownership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>What makes this interesting is not that these topics appear. It\u2019s that they appear every single time. They are not new. They are not unexpected. They were highlighted in previous programs, captured in retrospectives, and discussed in steering groups. And yet \u2014 they return. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they are truly \u201clessons learned,\u201d why do we keep relearning them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most programs have strong governance, structured change streams, and detailed data plans. There is communication, training, cleansing, templates, and tracking. A lot of activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But one question often remains unanswered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What actually changes in daily operations \u2014 and who owns that change?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a typical ERP setup, project roles focus on delivery, product teams focus on the system, and business roles focus on running today\u2019s operations. The business key user sits in the middle \u2014 intended as the bridge \u2014 but is often consumed by meetings, reporting, and tool discussions, no time and room in approach to estimate potential business use impact<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"462\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Roolit-projektissa-1024x462.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Roolit-projektissa-1024x462.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Roolit-projektissa-300x135.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Roolit-projektissa-768x346.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Roolit-projektissa-1536x693.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sillanrakentaja.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Roolit-projektissa-2048x923.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Future operating models rarely get the depth they require. Operational continuity is assumed \u2014 not engineered. The real surprises after go-live are rarely technical bugs. They are operational realities that were never fully thought through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If master data and change management keep appearing as \u201clessons learned,\u201d perhaps they are not the root causes. Perhaps they are symptoms of something deeper: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No one truly owning business value and continuity from day one due not even important factor in ERP programs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we keep running ERP as a project instead of redesigning how the business operates, we shouldn\u2019t expect a different outcome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Same lessons.<br>Same structures.<br>Same results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So here\u2019s the uncomfortable question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Are we implementing systems \u2014 or are we actually leading the business towards future and targets?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You may notice I left out the word\u00a0<em>transformation<\/em>. Intentionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe the issue is transformation without business change understanding. Maybe it\u2019s structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We should design programs around&nbsp;<strong>bridging<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 clearly defining what we are changing, why it matters, and what value it must create. Roles must be simplified, ownership clarified, and outcomes made explicit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An end-to-end, business-focused  business solution architect is essential to align operating model, value, and system design. And perhaps ERP programs should only start once we truly understand the change needed in operations \u2014 and what must be built into the operational flow before UAT and go-live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise, we will continue to deliver systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Not results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In almost every ERP program I\u2019ve seen, when go-live challenges emerge, the same&nbsp;\u201clessons learned\u201d&nbsp;resurface: What makes this interesting is not that these topics appear.
