The business just pays, but doesn\u2019t lead neither owns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here\u2019s the other common problem:<br>\ud83d\udc49\u00a0<strong>Operational business processes and value are not the same as ERP transaction processes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When this difference is ignored, ERP turns expensive and clumsy \u2013 and business eventually concludes it doesn\u2019t support operations. The clock speed of change resembles that of the European Union: outcomes end up being more about governance and restriction than about innovation and creating new value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The fix<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start with business processes at&nbsp;<strong>capability level (L3)<\/strong>: define the&nbsp;<em>what<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>why<\/em>&nbsp;not only to align today, but to&nbsp;<strong>identify where real value lies \u2013 hopefully future value<\/strong> <strong>for the business.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then determine which capabilities naturally belong in ERP, and which do not.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IT\u2019s role is to enrich this discussion by bringing new technology possibilities \u2013 not just products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49&nbsp;<strong>ERP is not the business \u2013 it\u2019s just one tool for it.
